Q: What do we mean by state succession ?

Ans: When one state is succeeded by another state , it is called state succession. Jammu and Kashmir was seperate state and Hari Singh was the king of Jammu and Kashmir at that time and Jammu and Kashmir was merged in India in 1947. 

The Goa state was merged in India  or was succeeded by India in 1947. This is called state succession .
